Deeply rooted in the Kootenay’s.
The Simm family has called Rossland, BC home for generations. Lyle Simm, like his parents and grandparents, grew up in the Kootenays. He and his wife, Shelly, saw an opportunity to support their community by buying a small snow removal business in their favourite ski town.
In the early days, it was just Lyle and a few crew members working long nights with limited equipment to keep the local roads safe. Their commitment and reputation were built on one simple belief: no job is too small.
Today, Simm Excavating and Snow Removal still honours its winter roots but now runs a full summer operation serving commercial, residential, and municipal clients. From road work and excavation to landscaping and infrastructure support, the team meets the year-round needs of the Kootenays.
With skilled operators, over 40 pieces of equipment, a full-service shop, and a landscaping yard, the company remains proudly family-run. Lyle’s nephews and long-time employees carry forward the values that started it all — hard work, honesty, and reliability.
At Simm, we’re here with the experience, materials, equipment, and dedication to get the job done season after season.
Join our team.
At Simm, our employees are family. When you join the team, you can expect varied, dynamic work with dedicated colleagues who bring a standard of excellence to every task. We invest in our people — many of our truckers or operators had their start as labourers, and many of us have been a part of the company for years.
We also like to have fun. When we’re not on the job, we enjoy after-work BBQ’s, boating trips, and year-end holiday parties.
We’re always looking for promising additions to our crew — people who desire a physical, challenging, and rewarding career, can take direction, problem solve, and get along well with others in a team environment. Contact us if you have experience as a:

“A lot of the work we get is from providing good service and building relationships on every type of service we provide. Some relationships go back to the first time we may have provided service to today where it might be the tenth time we have done work for this company.
This type of thinking has always made for good relationships with customers and a feeling of pride by Simm Excavating and all of it’s staff. The “open door, come and chat if you have a problem” keeps our long-time customers coming back with a degree of trust that works for both sides.”
